Breakfast on Pluto

» Transgendered

When I first saw Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins I was quite smitten. In this movie he plays a transvestite.

Kitten lives his life as a series of roles: a squaw in a native American-themed band, magician’s assistant, peepshow girl and others. His brief incarnation as a Womble in a children’s theme park will linger long in the memory.

He is, in short, a performer in every sense, but Breakfast on Pluto is not an excuse for a series of diverting drag acts, like many movies with transvestite central characters. It does, however, hew to the too-familiar notion that the more macho the male Kitten encounters, the more likely he is to want to protect him.

I wouldn’t call myself macho but - yes - with transgendered persons (like my lover) there is that desire/need to protect her.
