Gayface ... ?

As much as I admire Stanley Wells as a scholar his resurrection of the old speculation that the Cobbe Portrait is an image of Shakespeare is so pointless. It has inspirerd some funny speculations:
We have this from no less an authority than the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, in Stratford-Upon-Avon, England, which in March unveiled a newly discovered portrait some historians think might be of the Bard. “This Shakespeare is handsome and glamorous, so how does this change the way we think about him … and his sexuality?” wondered a statement from the trust to the press.
Is This A Gay Face I See Before Me?
Was Shakespeare queer or - at least - bisexual? We’ll never know. Nor do we need to. Oscar Wilde’s The Portrait of Mr. W.H. is fun though.
