Kevin Keller : Homophobic Backlash?
» Gay publishing » Homophobia

Archie Comics decision to introduce a regular gay male character - Kevin Keller - is quite a shock. I sell comic books for a living. Archie Comics is a very small company. The comics primary audience is teenage girls.
I don’t think the little misses are homophobes. But the parents who buy the comic books for them may be - if not outright homophobic - senselessly nervous about their daughters reading stories featuring a gay boy.
Wholesomeness is what Archie Comics is about to a substantial slice of its audience. I hope there is no violoent backlash against Kevin Keller. Archie might even lose distributors or rack space.
I wish the company and Kevin the best.
