Rufus Wainwright's Judy Garland

» Gay music

From a review of Rufus Wainwright recreation of Judy Garland’s 1961 Carnegie Hall show:

But to dismiss the tribute as “the gayest event that ever gayed,” as some have done on Internet fan sites and blogs, is missing the point of the matter. What Wainwright, a truly unique artist for his time, is doing may be showy and, yes, a tad gimmicky, but what Wainwright is doing is fairly revolutionary: acknowledging, in the most grand style possible, his own artistic muse, drawing the late artist out of her own closet of historical novelty, putting to the fore not only her well-known tragic life story but also her reach and depth as an artist.
