In an interview Ken Knox talks about some of the difficulties in writing Homocore: The Loud and Raucous Rise of Queer Rock:
… I tried really hard to get Le Tigre, Sleater-Kinney and the Scissor Sisters to take part in the book, but I got the runaround from their handlers. Ani DiFranco’s rep flat out refused us, which was a major bummer to me since so many of the bands in the book cited her as a chief influence in their careers. Most of those bands have gone on record as saying they don’t want to limit themselves by being lumped into the “gay rock” category, which I can certainly understand, but it was still very disheartening that they would not take part in something like this. And then there was Donna Dresch, who simply never responded to my emails. I even tried tracking her down through Jody Bleyle, Kaia Wilson and Amy Ray, but to no avail. …
