Gay Marriage in the Utherverse

» Gay internet

Utherverse, Inc., Los Angeles, CA – G.B. and Dave are busy making plans for their big day. They’ve sent the announcements, selected the wedding party and coordinated the entertainment. On October 22, 2006, Justice of the Peace Jezebel will wed these two lovers. But this is no usual wedding… on two counts.

G.B. and Dave are a gay couple. And if gay weddings aren’t as unusual as they were a few years back, this one marks another milestone. The wedding is taking place in the Red Light Center of Utherverse.com – a completely adult, real-time three-dimensional world commonly referred to as an MMO.

Taking geography and politics out of the equation, gay and lesbian couples are beginning to join the steadily increasing trend of couples marrying within MMO’s.

“I’ve performed two weddings since becoming a justice of the peace in Red Light Center,” said Dan Mace. “On October 22, I will be swearing in Jezebel as a new justice of the peace to help me with all the upcoming weddings. As her first official duty, she will be performing the wedding of GB and Dave. In the upcoming weeks I will be marrying three more couples and one couple who will be renewing their vows.”

Although many people view MMO’s merely as online games, these weddings are serious affairs; they have real-world consequences.

“The first couple that I married, Mike and Jessica, had never even met outside of Utherverse.com, but they fell in love. After living as husband and wife online, they’ve decided to take the next step. Last week the couple announced that the groom was flying from South Africa to the United States to have a real-world wedding,” Mr. Mace said.

Weddings are becoming so common within the Utherverse.com MMO, the need for a second Justice of the Peace happened within only a few months of the first wedding.

“These weddings are a result of the powerful social connections that are formed within an MMO,” said Brian Shuster, CEO of Utherverse, Inc. “By letting users meet each other, chat, drink, dance and date within a virtual city, our social network is just naturally going to result in real-life relationships. I only hope that G.B. and Dave will one day be allowed the same freedom to marry in real life as Mike and Jessica have today.”

Still in pre-beta, Utherverse.com is a free social networking web site with a free MMO software package. The system has more than 100,000 members, and the company is projecting more that 1,000,000 registered users by the end of this year.
